The Pilgrims have tasted some real success winning both the Southern League and the Conference, enjoying a spell in the Football League before the financial irregularities that helped to get them there were uncovered and they were demoted for their trouble. Among previous encounters saw a game at Meadow Park when Boston, then managed by Steve Evans were held to a 2-2 draw. After the game, the frustrated boss put his foot through a changing room door, witnessed by a City director who remonstrated with the Pilgrims manager only to be met with "F**k Off!". The director brought it to the attention of the Boston Chairman who agreed that it was behaviour not becoming of his football club and between the two agreed that £300 would cover the damage and wrote a cheque in the name of City. The money came straight out of Evans' wages.
